Wild Burgundy
From the deep forests of the Morvan Regional Natural Park, the heart of wild Burgundy, to the poetic waters of the Loire,
From the timeless quiet of the Nivernais Canal, one of the most beautiful in France, to its splendid lakes, La Nièvre turns its natural riches into a major asset.
La Nièvre can also be proud of its wines, the so-called “Vins de Loire”. The vineyards extend along the right bank of the Loire, the Burgundy side. Here it’s the Sauvignon grape that produces such excellent white wines, Pouilly-sur-Loire, Pouilly Fumé. The Côteaux du Giennois and Charitois produce extremely lively, controlled appellation whites and reds (Pinot Noir and Gamay).
La Nièvre is also an abundant Burgundy, mixing yesterday’s heritage and today’s talents, like the Bibracte Museum where you can delve into the history of the Celtic peoples, like the Nevers pottery that is so famous and sought after, like the tradition of floating logs down the river which is celebrated each year in Clamecy, and like the attraction of the Magny Cours circuit for motor racing enthusiasts.
