Of course, Burgundy owes a great deal to its powerful Dukes, who left their mark, to its Benedictine and Cistercian monks who planted the vines, but it is also in debt to its men and women, who over the millennia contributed to the reputation of their vineyards.

It required a lot of work, persistence and passion to make of Pinot Noir, the only type of grape used in Burgundy red, an oh so subtle, complex and difficult wine, one of the best in the world.

 

 

 

 

 

 

As you travel these picturesque roads, take time to go and meet them, to stop off at one of these Logis de France hotel-restaurants where the art of living and eating well are cultivated.

 

In a play on words it is said of Burgundy that “it is only the grapes that are pressed", ("pressé" also meaning "in a hurry" in French).
